As digital money transactions have grown, so have online banking frauds. Scammers try to snatch money from people through various means. Requests and defrauds through UPI based payments like Paytm and Google Pay in which customers lose their money.



In the case of UPI fraud, the fraudster tries to get remote access to one's mobile device so that he can do remote bank transactions. By getting to know how these scams work, people can avoid drowning and big fraud. A brief summary of how this type of fraud occurs is given below. Readers should take special note here that with the help of this modus operandi, any fraudster can transact through mobile banking and wallets like UPI such as Google Pay and Paytm.








Method

1. Fraudulent customers are tempted to download apps like Enidosk and Timviewer from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. These apps help give others remote access to the customer's mobile.

 2. Once the user downloads such application on their smartphone, the customer is then generated a 9 digit number (application code) on his mobile. The fraudster then asks the customer to share that code. 

3. This 9 digit number is used by the fraudster as an application code on his mobile. It then asks the customer to give some approvals that are similar to those required when using other applications.

 4. As the user allows the fraudster to immediately gain access to the customer's mobile and start reading the customer's mobile phone. 

5. In this way, the scammer obtains the mobile banking credentials from the customer and starts transacting through the mobile application already installed on the customer's mobile.
